BROOKLYN, New York — Just one week after being cleared to participate by the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel, Gonzaga’s Tyon Grant-Foster is getting his shot at basketball’s next level.

Last Wednesday, NBA doctors cleared Grant-Foster to participate. Now, he’s secured a Summer League deal with the San Antonio Spurs, according to a report.

A Summer League contract allows Grant-Foster to play for the Spurs’ Summer League team with the hope of earning a standard contract, two-way contract or Exhibit 10 deal at the conclusion of Summer League.

San Antonio’s 2026 Summer League schedule has yet to be released, but we know they will play in California July 3-6 and in Las Vegas July 9-19.

Grant-Foster, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound guard, had to be cleared by doctors after suffering two life-threatening heart incidents during his time at DePaul.

During the 2021-22 season, Grant-Foster collapsed on the court and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors used a defibrillator multiple times to restore his heart rhythm. He underwent two heart surgeries and had an implantable defibrillator placed.

After 16 months away from basketball, he returned to college action at Grand Canyon in 2023-24, averaging 20.1 points per game and earning Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.

Following that breakout season, Grant-Foster entered the NBA draft process and earned an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine before ultimately announcing his return to Grand Canyon in June 2024.

The following season, Grant-Foster again had to fight for eligibility in court to play another college season, which was eventually granted. In his lone season with the Zags, he appeared in 35 games, including six starts, and averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.

Grant-Foster is the second Zag to sign an NBA contract of some kind. Graham Ike signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Golden State shortly after the second round of the NBA draft concluded Wednesday. Jalen Warley is still awaiting an opportunity.
