“Will Darryn Peterson be able to wear No. 22?”
Of all the questions surrounding Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz, this one, albeit inconsequential, has been consistently brought up.
On Friday morning, that question was answered when the Jazz announced that Darryn Peterson would be wearing his college and high school number, 22.
During his draft night press conference, Peterson was asked which number he would wear, since No. 22 was already taken by Utah’s Kyle Filipowski. Peterson chose No. 8, not knowing that the number belonged to third year point guard, Isaiah Collier.
“If not (22), probably eight. I like eight. Kobe vibes,” Peterson said. “ I just got Kobe tattooed on my shoulder.”
When Peterson was alerted that No. 8 was also taken, he reverted back to his original number.
“I’m probably gonna text Flip right now, like, ‘what I gotta do?’”
The Jazz haven’t announced what jersey number Kyle Filipowski will switch to. At Duke, Filipowski wore No. 30, which was worn by Jusuf Nurkic last season. Nurkic is a free agent this summer, and if he decides to leave the Jazz, then Filipowski’s college number would be up for grabs.
Peterson’s first action in a purple, No. 22 jersey will come in the Salt Lake Summer League which starts on July 4, and ends on July 7 at the Huntsman Center.
