ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic entered the second round of the NBA Draft on Wednesday night with one pick, No. 46, their only selection in the 2026 draft.
They selected Tennessee forward Felix Okpara, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound center, and then made a three-way trade, sending his draft rights to the Washington Wizards in a deal that brought the Magic the draft rights to former USF forward Izaiyah Nelson and cash considerations. The Milwaukee Bucks received the draft rights to Malique Lewis, the No. 60 overall pick.
Nelson, who measured 6 feet, 8 1/4 inches without shoes and 218 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine but was listed by USF at 6-10, was named the 2025-26 American Conference Player of the Year, the American’s Defensive Player of the Year and the American’s Newcomer of the Year. Nelson played and started in all 34 of USF’s games last season, averaging 15.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.65 steals and 1.41 blocks in 27.2 minutes per game and shot 56.1% (194-346) from the field. He shot 14.3% from 3-point range, or 7-for-49. The Bulls made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012 in March. He spent his first three college seasons at Arkansas State.
The Wizards moved up in the second round one night after making BYU forward AJ Dybantsa the No. 1 pick in the draft. They began the night with two second-round picks before acquiring the No. 46 pick from Orlando to add size with Okpara.
Southeast Division teams made news in a busy week leading up to the draft.
The Magic entered the draft without a first-round pick because they traded it to the Memphis Grizzlies last year in the trade that brought guard Desmond Bane to Orlando. Then they hired a new coach, former San Antonio Spurs associate head coach Sean Sweeney, who was introduced on June 18 after the Spurs completed their NBA Finals series against the New York Knicks.
The Miami Heat claimed the biggest headline of the offseason so far when they acquired star Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Bucks on Monday night in exchange for a massive haul of players and draft picks.
Miami traded with the Oklahoma City Thunder to move up in the second round from No. 41 to No. 37, where it selected Louisville guard Ryan Conwell.
Washington agreed to a four-year contract extension with point guard Trae Young on Monday. The Atlanta Hawks on Monday agreed to acquire wing Aaron Wiggins from the Thunder for second-round draft picks in 2030 and 2032. The Hawks also gave guard C.J. McCollum a one-year, $21 million extension.
