OMAHA, Neb (WOWT) – Omaha native Tucker DeVries has signed with the Boston Celtics on an Exhibit 10 contract after going undrafted.
That is an NBA training camp deal that pays a one-year, nonguaranteed minimum salary unless converted into a two-way contract.
DeVries was born in Omaha and lived there through his freshman year of high school at Elkhorn South while his father, Darian DeVries, was an assistant coach at Creighton.
The family relocated to Waukee, Iowa, in 2018 when Darian DeVries took the job as head coach at Drake.
Tucker DeVries committed to the Bulldogs to play under his father and won Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year twice in his three seasons there from 2021-24.
Darian DeVries took the head coaching job at West Virginia ahead of the 2024 season, and his son transferred to play for him with the Mountaineers. Tucker DeVries was limited to eight games after suffering a shoulder injury that shut him down.
After one season in Morgantown, Darian DeVries left for the head coaching job at Indiana. Tucker DeVries transferred again and finished his college career with the Hoosiers in 2025-26, starting all 32 games and averaging 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 39.7% shooting.
The Celtics have another Omaha native signed to a two-way deal. Central alum John Tonje was converted from a 10-day contract on March 1 after Boston initially traded with the Utah Jazz for him in early February. He averaged 2.5 points, 1 rebound and 0.3 assists in six NBA games.
Aurora, Nebraska, native and former South Dakota State and Creighton guard Baylor Scheierman is entering the third year of his rookie deal with the Celtics after being drafted in the first round, 30th overall, in 2024. He averaged 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 77 games with 20 starts last season.
