According to The Stein Line, Marcus Smart is expected to decline his player option for next season with the Lakers and sign a three-year deal with the Houston Rockets.

“The expectation of a three-year offer at a higher annual number than Smart’s $5.4 million player option for next season with the Lakers has only led to more anticipation that Smart will bypass the option and become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday,” The Stein Line reports.

Marcus Smart was one of the Lakers’ key players this season, helping Los Angeles reach the fourth seed in the Western Conference and later defeat the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs despite missing both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the series.

The 32-year-old raised all of his averages in the playoffs, becoming a key player for the Lakers on both ends of the court. He averaged 12.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals, including a couple of big-time 20-point performances against the Rockets.

During the regular season, the veteran guard averaged 9.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
