There is a strong likelihood that the NBA superstar could be dealt back to Toronto, as reports suggest that the Raptors and the LA Clippers are in active discussions around Leonard.

Leonard mainly wants to remain in LA as a Clippers, but would welcome a change of scenery, preferably on his old teams. Primarily, the two-time Finals MVP would like to strike a new contract with Toronto only, as 2026-27 would be the final year of his current deal

With the Raptors emerging as the most possible destination, Leonard’s ongoing trade ties with Toronto can’t be more significant from what ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne has shared on NBA Today.

“From what I understand, Kawhi is comfortable going back to places he’s been comfortable before. He’s been very comfortable in Toronto. There’s a guy who runs their performance there and he managed him the entire season with all the load managing and all the injuries he had, all the way to a championship,” Shelburne said.

“He’s very comfortable with the Raptors organization and he didn’t burn any bridges.”

Raptors applied strict load management to historic 2019 season with Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors fulfilled the NBA’s most successful one-and-done season seven years ago, and that is out of the franchise’s strict and comprehensive health management of the superstar.

Throughout the 2018-19 NBA regular season, the Raptors have carefully applied a load management stance on Leonard, barring him from playing back-to-back games and limiting his appearances to 60.

In the end, Leonard was fully healthy and conditioned to play when it mattered the most. He powered the Raptors’ first-ever NBA championship run in a historic postseason fashion.

Leonard’s lone season with the Raptors may have been brief, but the franchise’s support for him left a lasting impact, which puts a reunion back on the table.
