Hawks officially acquired guard Devin Carter from the Kings as Atlanta continues to reshape its roster.
The Atlanta Hawks officially added another young piece to their backcourt Monday, acquiring guard Devin Carter and a 2033 second-round draft pick from the Sacramento Kings.
In exchange, Atlanta sent the draft rights to Alpha Kaba, the 60th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, to Sacramento.
Carter, the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is entering his third NBA season after showing significant growth during the 2025-26 campaign. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged career highs of 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 38 games, including 12 starts, with the Kings.
One of Carter’s top performances came March 10 against Indiana, when he scored 24 points, including 22 in the fourth quarter alone. He became one of only seven NBA players last season to score at least 22 points in a single fourth quarter.
Across two NBA seasons, Carter has appeared in 74 games, averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists. He has also excelled in the NBA G League, averaging 24.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 10 career appearances.
Before entering the NBA, Carter played one season at South Carolina before transferring to Providence. As a senior in 2023-24, he averaged 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists while earning BIG EAST Player of the Year honors.
The move gives the Hawks another young, versatile guard as Atlanta continues reshaping its roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
