SHELBYVILLE — The Collins girls basketball program will host its annual “Basketball Bootcamp” June 23–24, with second-year head coach Troy Adams bringing his trademark energy and player-first mindset to the court.
The two-day camp, open to girls in grades 3 through 12, will be held at Martha Layne Collins High School. Grades 3–8 will participate from 12–2 p.m., followed by grades 9–12 from 2:15–4:15 p.m. Admission is $50 per camper.
Adams, who just completed his first season at the helm of the Lady Titans, said the camp will focus on building confidence, fundamentals, and fun.
“I bring a lot of energy,” Adams said. “I’ve worked camps at every level, and the one thing I’ve learned is you’ve got to make it fun while they’re learning. That’s my style—high energy, lots of fun, and focusing on the basics of the game.”
In addition to Adams and his coaching staff, current Lady Titan players will help lead camp activities. Adams said their involvement will benefit both campers and players.
“Our coaching staff and players will be hands-on,” he said. “It gives our girls a chance to develop leadership skills—no matter their age—and for younger kids to be around the athletes they look up to. Some of these middle schoolers watched our girls play last season, and now they’ll be on the court with them.”
The camp also serves as a foundation for the culture Adams is continuing to build within the program.
“Events like this are huge for program development,” he said. “It helps younger players get familiar with us—our staff, our players, our expectations. It gives parents a chance to get to know us, too. Culture is everything—if you can get kids to buy in early to how hard we work and how we do things, it pays off later.”
Adams credits his staff for helping create a positive, competitive environment.
“We’ve got a great staff, and this camp is going to be a lot of fun,” he said. “We’re excited to meet everyone.”
