New Orleans Pelicans offseason analysis: “He Said, She Said”
All right, now to *** little game that we’re gonna call. He said, she said. We’re gonna talk about the Pelicans. Jamal Mosley says he likes his roster. Let’s start with Trey Murphy. Is Trey Murphy on this roster when the Pelicans start training camp? We’ll go as she said. I say yes. Now I know that there’s *** lot of turning rumors because he is the biggest asset the Pelicans have, and if they’re gonna make *** change, he’s the guy that you get the most return for, but I think he needs to be on this roster. He provides *** lot of. Scoring, he’s 38% 3 point shooter, and you need someone who can space the floor when you’ve got Zion Williamson and Derek Queen who bring the gravity so much towards the basket, you need someone to kick out who can make shots. There were so many games this year, he was really the only one scoring, and he’s having his best year last year. Yeah, look, I, I apologize for interrupting you. I agree with you, but just to take an opposite opinion of he said, I don’t want to see Trey go, but you said he’s their best chip he could. Bring back valuable players and future assets, and I think the Pelicans are hedging *** little bit right now. I think they want to be good, but I think they know they may still be *** year or two away because of fears in Queen. So if you can get *** good player and *** ton of draft capital, maybe play that card right now, because look, Trey played last year and they weren’t great last year. And we’ve talked about this. If they don’t make *** change, the Pelicans, you’re saying *** 26 win team, they’re basically running it back with the only problem. Problem being the coach, they fired Willie Green 12 games into the season, then gave another viable coaching option *** chance with that roster, and they still couldn’t do anything. So if you’re the Pelicans, if you’re Joe Dumars, you’re basically saying you think Jamal Mosley is gonna fix all of your problems. He has *** magic wand, right? Apparently from Disney World. You’re right. All right, let’s go on to Herb Jones now. Is Herb Jones on this team when the season starts? I mean, I guess I think that if they were gonna move on from Herb Jones, they should have done it last year when he was. Off his best year, which is, I guess my opposite thinking from Trey Murphy, because if you’re gonna move Trey Murphy, now is the time to move him. The problem is Herb had offers last year. He was coming off an all defensive year and he was gonna get the most return last year. Now he kind of plateaued this last season, so they’re not getting the bites, the calls that maybe they were last year, and they might not get the return. And Jamal Mosley is such *** defensive-minded head coach. He likes *** guy like Herb Jones. Yeah, I agree. I, I think Herb is gonna be here, but I do think he has worth in the league. And again. This is the confusing thing about the Pelicans right now. Who and what are they? And that leads kind of to my next question. The West is loaded. Wembayama and the Spurs are just getting better. Oklahoma City is not taking *** step back. They’re making moves on the fringes, but their core is their core, and there are other teams in the Western Conference. I know people are jumping on what the Lakers did losing LeBron, but if it comes together for them, Luca is *** superstar, and they’re going to outscore *** lot of teams. Are the Pelicans even in contention with what they have right now? No. And I, and I think what’s crazy is the San Antonio Spurs are younger than the LSU men’s basketball team. It’s true. They’re and they’re only gonna keep getting better and you saw Victor Wimiyama just ascend. He will be the MVP next year, I think. Well, he should have been MVP last year. You’re right. He finished 2nd. He was Defensive Player of the Year, Gilgs Alexander, but that’s the thing. What move do the Pelicans make that puts them in the same category? Do you have *** move in mind? No. I do. Let me say this like I don’t, that’s the thing. I am holding out hope. I put *** tweet up earlier this week. There’s *** movie Rounders, 19. ’98, Matt Damon, John Malkovich, Edward Norton and Matt Damon’s character lulls John Malkovich’s character basically into *** false sense of security playing poker, and then boom, he hits him with *** big move and it’s over. I keep waiting for Joe Dumars. What’s the big move? Who loses out on LeBron? And they say, boom, here’s the big move. We did something that makes everybody go, wow, I could almost sell that as Paul George. Maybe I could sell it as Derrick White because he Kind of *** win now guy, but maybe there’s ***, maybe there’s another big move coming that I just don’t see. But I agree with what you said earlier. How can you just run it back and ask Jamal Mosley, fix it, dude. Make this team good? Well, and I think everyone thought Dumars was going to come in and do *** bunch of active things and make trades and kind of be *** hyper aggressive guy, and he just hasn’t been. And I think that’s also from *** fan perspective, you’re asking now fans to buy season tickets and come to 41 games at home when you’re running it back. With *** team that won 26 and how over 20-something the year before that. Yeah, and I’ll just wrap it up on this. I think that maybe they should have taken *** step back. Maybe they should have gone fierce, Queen, gone with assets, gone the route of San Antonio or Oklahoma City. Hey, we’re going to play 18 and 19 year old kids for *** while, and we’re going to take some lumps, but we’re going to get there eventually. I don’t think they have an appetite for that. I don’t think Gayle Benson has an appetite for that. I don’t think her leadership has an appetite for that. I don’t think Joe Dumars has an appetite. For that, so now you are kind of threading the needle. You’re playing young guys, but you also want to win, and that’s not *** recipe for success. And I think the last thing I’ll say is if they do run it back, that just shows you how much Joe Dumars has faith in Jeremiah Pars and Derek Queen basically turning into massive stars in year 2. They showed *** lot of potential in year 1, but then you’re betting on them to be superstars almost. Anthony Davis did that in his defense. Anthony Davis, I covered him year 1 to year 2. He became an All-Star in year 2. If those young guys take *** massive step forward. Then maybe this team can be good, but that’s when Byama didn’t take *** massive step until year 3. I mean, LeBron didn’t make the playoffs till year 3. Asking those guys fears is gonna be 19 years old, that’s, uh, that, that’s *** lot. We could probably do this the rest of the show. We probably could. Yeah, you talk *** lot. Oh, so do you.
