The day is finally here. Former BYU Cougar star AJ Dybantsa will don an NBA uniform for the first time. The Las Vegas Summer League begins on Thursday and the Washington Wizards No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft hits the floor.
While it is only a summer league game, there is hype in this one as Dybantas is going up against Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz, who was selected No. 2 overall in last months draft.
These games feature a lot of young guys who were just drafted, signed as free agents, and a bunch of G League players. The competition may not be elite, but seeing Peterson and Dybantsa match up will be fun. The two faced off in college a few times when BYU took on Kansas, so perhaps this matchup could continue as a rivalry in the NBA.

This will be the first chance for Cougar fans — plus, Wizard fans — to see Dybantsa going up against possibly the most talented players he has ever faced.
However, with this being Summer League basketball, expectations should be met appropriately. Dybatnsa may not play a ton after the first game, especially if plays really well. While the competition is better it is not the real NBA. Don’t be disappointed if Dybantsa struggles or doesn’t light up the box score.
Watch to see how Dybantsa reacts to the faster game. Is he attacking and making plays, or is Dybantsa hanging around being hesitant to see how the game is flowing.
Just don’t take Summer League basketball too seriously.
