Latest on the Pistons

Detroit’s Summer League roster features several intriguing prospects, led by first-round pick Ebuka Okorie and former Tennessee sharpshooter Chaz Lanier. The matchup between Okorie and Philon will be one of the game’s most intriguing storylines, with both lead guards selected in the first round. It’s also worth noting that the Pistons do have a considerable size advantage with 7-footers Ugonna Onyenso and Steven Crowl in the paint.

Top Summer Sixers to watch

First, Johni Broome, who was selected No. 35 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, will be making his return to the court after a meniscus tear ended his rookie campaign. Despite only appearing in 11 games for the Sixers last season, averaging 0.9 points per game, Broome dominated during his time in the G League. He averaged  22.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for Delaware, starting 18 games. Broome should have an opportunity to make an impact inside, particularly as the only Summer Sixer with NBA experience.

Another player Sixers fans should lock on to is Labaron Philon. Selected with the No. 22 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Philon has often been viewed as one of the better values in the first round. At Alabama, Philon emerged as one of the nation’s top guards, showcasing quick hands, shot creation and playmaking ability. He was the main engine for the Crimson Tide’s offense, averaging 22.0 points and 5.0 assists per game. While it may take some time for Philon to adjust to the NBA game, the Summer League will provide Philadelphia with its first look at how quickly Philon’s game translates to the professional level.

A dark horse player to watch tonight for the Sixers is former Hawaii Rainbow Warriors center Isaac Johnson. Johnson took a major step forward after transferring to Hawaii, helping lead the Rainbow Warriors to the NCAA Tournament while averaging a team-high 14.9 points. A 7-foot center, the tallest player on the Summer Sixers, Johnson provides them with some much-needed size, especially against this Summer Pistons roster. While he wasn’t the best rebounder in college, he was an effective shot blocker, averaging 1.0  in only 21.2 minutes per game.

Finally, the most important thing in this game will be the development of the Sixers’ young players. This game, and subsequent Summer League games, will be key in establishing a baseline understanding of where the Sixers’ young guys are in their development. It will also be valuable in determining the expectations of everyone on the roster for the role they can play this season for the Sixers.
