Teenage NBA reporter lands scoop, interviews Bucks coach at summer league
This 15-year-old NBA reporter has already broken Bucks news, interviewed Darvin Ham and developed some veteran-level summer league advice.

Young players were not the only ones trying to prove themselves during the NBA’s summer league action in Sacramento.
Ethan Minton, a 15-year-old NBA reporter from Sacramento, spent the California Classic earning his own stripes from the sidelines.

Before the Milwaukee Bucks tipped off their summer league schedule, Minton reported that the team’s two lottery picks, Brayden Burries and Nate Ament, would sit out the California Classic opener. He later followed up the scoop by interviewing Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham.
“I was a couple rows back of Darvin Ham,” Minton said. “I’ve got to say, I was kind of shaking. I was pretty nervous to go up to him and talk. It was tough for me, but he was incredibly kind, incredibly gracious.”
Minton said Ham’s response to a question about evaluating summer league players left a lasting impression on him.
“Picking which players from a summer league roster should make the regular season roster,” Minton said. “And his answer really stood out to me. It’s a team sport, and that’s really what matters at the end of the day.”

One Milwaukee player also caught Minton’s attention.
“I think [Bogoljub] Markovic, that’s the guy that Bucks fans should definitely be excited about,” Minton said. “He’s a great stretch big and he’s a force in the paint.”
Minton’s reporting career began through his literacy nonprofit, which provides books to children. That work helped him land his first major NBA interview with Sacramento Kings players. He has since joined a Sacramento blog, “The Lead” as a writer.
Despite his age, Minton has already learned one of the most important lessons of covering summer basketball.
“To all fans out there, whether you’re a Bucks fan, a Kings fan or a fan of any NBA team,” Minton said, “don’t overreact about the summer league.”
