Former Oklahoma City Thunder guard Isaiah Joe is leaving Oklahoma for the Detroit Pistons, but he hosted a two-day charity event before his departure, raising funds for pediatric cardiology programs at Oklahoma Children’s OU Health and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.The event, called Joe’s Children Classic Golf Tournament, was organized by the Isaiah Joe Family Foundation and included a silent auction and golf tournament at Oak Tree Golf Course. Isaiah’s brother, Jon, was born with a congenital heart condition and received life-saving care at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. “You have a hospital that’s this close to support your community. I mean, you don’t have to travel hours and hours,” said Isaiah’s father, Derrick Joe. “When my son Jon was in the hospital in Arkansas, there were kids from Alabama and other parts of the country, and their parents could only come and see them maybe once a month, and it was just heartbreaking to see.” Joe expressed his gratitude to those who supported the event. “I can never thank everybody that showed up today and last night, and now for everything that they’ve done for me so far,” he said. >> Video Below: Fort Smith celebrates NBA champions Isaiah Joe and Jaylin Williams with paradeWhen asked what he hopes Oklahoma remembers most about him, Joe emphasized his dedication to giving back. “At the end of the day, what we’re doing here is bigger than basketball. Even when I’m done playing, we’re still going to be giving back, and so this is something that’s near and dear, close to me in my family’s heart,” he said. The tournament wrapped up at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
