The Brooklyn Nets will be making some important decisions by the end of this month when the 2025 NBA Draft begins on June 25, especially with their eighth overall pick. These are the first draft picks that Brooklyn will make since beginning their rebuild last offseason and there is a possibility that they could move up higher in the Draft to select a better player.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported last week that the Philadelphia 76ers, who have the third overall pick in the Draft, are looking to add a young player to their core of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey as they look to have a bounceback from a disappointing 2024-25 season. While Stein’s report would imply that the 76ers would use their No. 3 to achieve that goal, it also appears that Philadelphia would be willing to move back in the Draft.

“If there is a trade in Philadelphia’s future involving the No. 3 pick in the draft, don’t expect the 76ers to move down very far on the 2025 draft board,” Stein wrote (h/t to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire). “League sources maintain that the Sixers are determined to add a dynamic young talent to their core after the tremendous fortune they enjoyed in the May 12 draft lottery.”

As this relates to the Nets, there have been various reports throughout the offseason that suggest that Brooklyn could potentially look to move up in the Draft to get a better pick. More to the point, there are also reports that the Nets could also be looking to acquire a second Lottery pick, but it seems that a team like the 76ers wouldn’t be willing to move out of the Lottery completely given what Stein has reported.

Based off most mock drafts, it seems that the 76ers would be choosing between Rutgers forward Ace Bailey and Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe to take with the third overall pick. However, if Philadelphia is not particularly impressed with either player or would be more interested to see what trading the No. 3 pick could get them, Brooklyn could be a team that takes advantage of the 76ers wanting to stay in the Lottery while trying to maximize its championship window.
