Statesboro High names interim boys basketball coach
STATESBORO, Ga. —
Statesboro High School has named Courtnei Houston interim head coach of its boys basketball team for the 2026-27 season, the school announced.
The school said it will post the head coaching position for interested candidates to apply for at the end of the season.
Houston is a teacher and middle school head basketball coach who led Langston Chapel Middle School to back-to-back Coastal Empire Championship titles in his first two seasons. School officials said he brings 15 years of experience developing athletes and helping build successful basketball programs. He also has operated his own basketball training business for more than 11 years.
For the past four years, Houston has served as a physical education teacher at Langston Chapel Elementary School. The school said his relationships with families at two of Statesboro High’s feeder schools will help him in the new role.
“Coach Houston’s familiarity with our student-athletes and community, combined with his proven leadership and commitment to developing well-rounded individuals, makes him the perfect fit to lead our program during this transition,” Principal Keith Wright said.
Houston is a Statesboro High graduate from the Class of 2005 and the brother of fellow alumnus and NFL All-Pro Justin Houston. He played college basketball at Compton College and Georgia Southern University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Georgia Southern and is pursuing a master’s degree in health and physical education there.
Houston is the father of two children, Courtnei Jr., 23, and Kalayi, 12.
