Texas basketball will renew its rivalry with former conference foe Baylor Nov. 15 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, according to a report Monday from Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today.

Texas officials did not immediately confirm the news, and Rothstein reported “there is no timetable on an official announcement.” However, such reports often precede official word by the schools or event promoter since contracts take a few days to finalize.

Texas competed against Baylor for decades in the Southwest Conference and the Big 12 Conference before the Longhorns left for the SEC prior to the 2024-25 school year. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 164-98, which includes a dramatic 75-73 in January 2024 in a Big 12 contest.

After that game, coaches for both schools said the programs would likely resume the series at some point as a nonconference matchup between two schools separated by 100 miles of Interstate 35.

“It’s a great rivalry; it really is,” said Rodney Terry, who served as the Longhorns’ head coach for three seasons before getting fired by Texas athletic  director Chris Del Conte in March 2025. “Yeah, I think there’s going to be opportunities in the future to continue to be able to play. … We recruit the same players, and you want to play the best in the country. Why not when you have that close proximity?”

Longtime Baylor coach Scott Drew, who led the Bears to their only national championship in 2021, said after that game that the series against Texas has helped both programs when it comes to recruiting in-state players and raising the profile of all collegiate programs in Texas.

“It’s good for the state,” Drew said. “I think the state’s really benefited from us playing, so I’m sure we’ll do something. I don’t know if there will be an every-year thing, but I have a lot of respect for what Texas does for the state.”

The 262 games against Baylor marks the most matchups against any opponent for Texas. All of those games came during the regular season or conference tournament in the Southwest Conference or the Big 12. The teams haven’t played each other since Baylor beat Texas 93-85 March 4, 2024, in Waco.

Second-year coach Sean Miller led Texas to the Sweet 16 in his first season in Austin, and his schedule for the upcoming season keeps coming into focus. 

The SEC schedule has been determined, although exact dates and times haven’t been set. Texas will host Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas A&M in Moody Center. Its road trips include matchups against Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

In nonconference play, Texas will play Georgetown and either UCLA or St. Mary’s at the Rady Children’s Invitational Nov. 26-27 in San Diego. The Longhorns will visit Louisville Dec. 1 and host Memphis Dec. 16 at Moody Center.

Texas revamped its roster on the recruiting path and in the transfer portal and looks poised to enter the season as a ranked team.
