MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis Grizzlies Forward GG Jackson II hosted his Groom and Grind Back to School event Tuesday at the Bernal E. Smith Boys and Girls Club, providing free school supplies to children preparing to return to school.
Jackson, entering his fourth season with Memphis, is now the longest-tenured player on the Grizzlies roster. He said that tenure comes with a sense of responsibility — to give back to the community and to set an example for younger players on the team to do the same.
“Hopefully they can show my teammates that they should be out here in the community doing things as well,” Jackson said.
He says teammate Jaylen Wells is also active in the community and that Jackson hopes the two can get together for a special event to give back to their community.
The event came one day after Jackson watched his Grizzlies teammates fall to the Golden State Warriors 94-90 in the Las Vegas Summer League championship game Saturday.
