Timberwolves and Lynx fans had an opportunity to stock up on older merchandise for a reduced price Thursday.
The liquidation sale at Mayo Clinic Center netted diehards, sweet jerseys, signed goods, and even a Wally Szczerbiak rubber duck. You read that correctly, by the way.
Steve came early as he already had the date circled on his calendar.
“I haven’t been able to be at one of these before,” he said. “I’ve always been out of town and I’m a huge Wolves fan and just kind of wanted to see what they had. I knew it was all going to be clearance stuff, but a good price, and you know the Wolves are always in style.”
So, what did Steve walk away with?
“I got a couple of jerseys, and some sweaters, and a pair of shorts. And just some general stuff,” he adds.
That’s a lot different than what Ian purchased.
“A Wally Szczerbiak rubber duck,” he said of his new prized possession. “Showed up a little bit too late, kind of slept in a little too much to get any of the like real good stuff. But there’s still some hidden treasures in there in the dollar section.”
Sofie and Hannah may have come a little too late as well.
“Kind of slim pickings. Yeah, yeah, it’s a lot of like larger sizes, stuff like that. I came more for like Lynx merch and there’s a lot of Timberwolves stuff. But I feel like the checkout line for like a shirt that’s $1 that I don’t really want is not worth it.”
Some fans waited hours to get in to scour the bargain bins.
And if you couldn’t find what you want? Oh well. As Minnesota sports fans are really good at saying: “There’s always next year.”
