Scissortail Park is buzzing like we’ve never seen it before, but the excitement is all around Oklahoma City. You can see it in the flags and banners, and some of those homemade signs are taking off. “It’s a simple orange sign, but it means a lot. The community thinks a lot of this team and wants to support,” Alexa Lienhard, who is selling homemade signs, said. You may have seen her orange signs across the city during the playoffs and thought people were getting them from a sign shop. You’d be wrong. Lienhard told KOCO 5 that she just wanted something to celebrate the playoffs. “Back in the years with Russ, we had the ‘In Russ We Trust’ signs. So, I kinda looked around and couldn’t find anything,” she said. “So, just like, well, let’s create it ourselves. And so, we ordered 50 to start.” But when her friends and family put their signs down, demand shot up. “Within about three weeks, some different neighborhoods were catching on. And so, some of them wanted to order them in bulk,” Lienhard said. Video Below: Sky 5 shows Thunder UP in the Park before Game 1 of the NBA FinalsNow, the number of signs is at 2,600. Entire neighborhoods even bought signs, with some making them their own with player tributes. You’ll find them in Nichols Hills, Crown Heights and even in front of businesses and outside Oklahoma City. “I’ve had some people buy and send them to Duncan, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Dallas. We’ve also got some in Denver,” Lienhard said. It still has that small-town feel here in Oklahoma City with people pulling up to her front porch to grab them. While it has been a surprise, Lienhard said “it is kinda crazy to see something like that spread so fast.” “In Oklahoma City, no. I feel like things spread like wildfire here, and we’re really rallying around our team,” said Claire Murchison, who bought a sign.
