Apart from that reality and ongoing negotiation, the next major deal that the Pistons will have to work out would be for Ausar Thompson. After three seasons, Thompson has comfortably positioned himself among the NBA’s elite from a defensive perspective, which is underscored by his third-place finish for Defensive Player of the Year in the 2025-26 campaign, but his offensive reliability has not risen to anywhere near his impact on defense.Â
