COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Former South Carolina Gamecock and Toronto Raptors player Collin Murray-Boyles and his brother James Murray-Boyles hosted the Get in the Game Back to School event at Meadow Lake Park.
Children received free book bags and school supplies at the event. Organizers also provided free food, music, and bounce houses.
The Murray-Boyles brothers said the event was designed not only to provide back-to-school supplies but also to give children positive role models.
“It definitely means a lot. You know, we grew up coming to this gym, growing up our whole life basically. Our first sports were playing here, so it definitely just means a lot to put on this kind of event and get back to the community that raised us,” James Murray-Boyles said.
Collin Murray-Boyles said the event carries personal significance for him and his career.
“We’ve been in their shoes before, so having somebody to really look up to, to have that motivation to try to be the best that they can be — I feel like that’s monumental to kids, especially in these types of communities. So this is very, very important for me, for my career, and very important for these kids,” Collin Murray-Boyles said.
