The Philadelphia 76ers have their focus on bouncing back from a miserable 2024-25 season where they went 24-58 due to the injuries that decimated the roster. The Sixers now have a goal of getting younger as they move into the offseason.
The Sixers hold the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA draft which will be a big help to them as they look to add to the roster. With that being said, it doesn’t hurt to add some proven players who have been in the league for some time under the age of 30.
Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers are working out former lottery pick Dennis Smith Jr. as part of a veteran minicamp. Smith, 27, has played seven years in the league including most recently with the Brooklyn Nets in the 2023-24 season where he averaged 6.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds.
Smith was the No. 9 overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks and if he is able to earn a spot on the Sixers, he would immediately add a defensive presence on the perimeter. He isn’t much of a shooter, only 29.8% from deep for his career, but he is a slashing guard who can get after it on the defensive end.
