Ja Rule’s postgame concert at Rate Field was canceled during the White Sox’s 8-2 loss, leading to heavy boos and mixed explanations from the team and the rapper.

The Chicago White Sox already had a rough enough night Friday at Rate Field. Then the scoreboard made it worse.

During the ninth inning of an 8-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians, the team announced that the scheduled postgame concert by Ja Rule had been canceled. Boos immediately followed.

The original message from the White Sox cited “unexpected travel issues” as the reason Ja Rule would not be performing. Fans who purchased tickets were told they would receive complimentary tickets to a future game, and all field passes would be refunded.

Hours later, Ja Rule offered his own explanation on X.

“Due to inclement weather issues my show tonight at the stadium was cancelled sorry to all my fans that came out to see me tonight I love y’all and appreciate the support hopefully we can get this show rescheduled really soon thanks for understanding and again sorry for the inconvenience… 💛,” he posted.

The differing reasons, travel issues from the team, and weather from the artist only added to the frustration for some fans who had stuck around through a lopsided loss expecting a postgame show.

Fan Reaction on X

The cancellation quickly became meme material on X.

Fans pointed out the double dose of disappointment: sitting through an 8-2 blowout only to learn the concert was off. One popular reaction noted that White Sox fans weren’t exactly “Livin’ It Up” after the loss and subsequent cancellation. Others joked that 50 Cent somehow had a hand in it, while another user suggested the team missed a golden opportunity to sell discounted 50 Cent tickets as a troll move.

The White Sox have not announced whether the concert will be rescheduled. Ja Rule expressed hope that it could happen “really soon,” but nothing official has been confirmed.

For a fan base already dealing with a four-game losing streak, Friday’s events offered little relief. The baseball was bad. The concert never happened. And the only thing that arrived on time was the booing.
