MILWAUKEE — Don Nelson, the second-winningest coach in NBA history and a five-time NBA champion as a player, has died at 86.
Before “Nellie Ball” revolutionized the league, Donald Arvid Nelson built a dynasty of innovation in Milwaukee.
From 1976 to 1987, Nelson transformed the Bucks into a powerhouse, delivering seven consecutive division titles and earning NBA Coach of the Year honors in 1983 and 1985.
Nelson introduced concepts like the “point forward” that altered modern basketball forever. He was a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
It was announced Sunday of his death.
