Stephen Curry hasn’t requested a trade, and it’s not clear if he ever will.

But if he does, the Golden State Warriors will talk it through.

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy conducted a virtual interview with reporters on Tuesday to address the team’s quiet offseason and Curry’s future with the franchise. While Dunleavy expressed confidence that Curry will remain with the Warriors, he said the two-time MVP has “earned the right to do what he wants.”

“Ultimately it’s his call, his decision, whether that’s allowing his contract to run out and move on,” Dunleavy said. “Look, if he comes to me and wants to be moved, [controlling owner] Joe [Lacob] and I will talk it through. We wouldn’t love it. But he’s earned the right to do what he wants.

“But as far as the messaging or any idea that he’d be anywhere else, that’s not a thing we’re looking at or he’s looking at.”

Curry is entering the final year of his contract. He is eligible to sign an extension with the Warriors on Aug. 29.

Some Boston Celtics fans thought Brad Stevens was trying to make the most of Curry’s uncertain future by trading for him, but the rumor turned out to be untrue. That hasn’t stopped Celtics fans from dreaming.

One of Curry’s former teammates added fuel to the fire by saying that he’d “love” to see him on the Celtics.

Does that mean Curry is destined to be a Celtic? Of course not. Dunleavy said he’s confident Curry still wants to finish his career with the Warriors.

But if Curry does have a change of heart, it sounds like the Warriors will at least discuss honoring his request.
