The Sixers are gearing up for one of their most anticipated seasons in decades. With the addition of LeBron James, the expected role of many players on the team is set to adjust in some capacity as he drastically alters what the Sixers can accomplish on a possession-by-possession basis.

His elite court vision and facilitating skills should make life easier for everyone, but some players stand to gain more than others.

Here are the two Sixers expected to benefit the most while playing alongside LeBron.

Tyrese Maxey

Tyrese Maxey has needed more off-ball touches since James Harden left the team, and he is finally going to get them, and then some. Since Maxey assumed the primary point guard role, he has become one of the better guards in the league. But the best part of his game may be the one that got siphoned out the most: shooting off the catch.

With LeBron now taking over as the de facto point guard, those opportunities are going to come around often for Maxey, and they could lead to the most efficient season of his career. Maxey is going to command less defensive attention when working off-ball than he has over the past couple of years with the ball in his hands. That lesser attention combined with the gravity created by James, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid will help give him the most wide-open shots he has had in years, if not his entire career.

Maxey has the opportunity to take his game to new heights once again working alongside LeBron.

Adem Bona

This is a make-or-break year for Adem Bona. He has a real chance to take his game to new heights with LeBron initiating the offense around him. Bona has yet to establish himself offensively, but he has also never played with a setup man like LeBron James, and that could be the key to unlocking his potential. He will also need to be more disciplined defensively to stay on the floor and get consistent reps with LeBron.

If Bona can show an improved ability to catch the ball off the pick-and-roll and effectively finish through traffic or above the rim, he is going to be one of LeBron’s favorite targets.

In a vacuum, arguably nobody on the Sixers’ roster is better suited to play alongside LeBron at this stage of his career than Bona. But if the same limitations persist, Bona may not get the opportunity to grow into that role on a team focused on competing for a championship.
