Amid speculation around how far he can take the Minnesota Timberwolves, head coach Chris Finch is garnering attention elsewhere.

Boasting a 209-160 record in five seasons, Finch boasts the highest winning percentage (56.6%) of any coach in franchise history.

Although Finch has led the Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference Finals and turned the team into a perennial playoff contender, his player rotations and lack of offensive scheme have been pain points for the fan base.

Under new ownership, the Wolves are expected to make some major roster moves this offseason to help the team make their first NBA Finals.

However, even Finch could be subject to a career move with the interest he’s garnered from an Eastern Conference contender.

According to SNY NBA insider Ian Begley, Finch is among several coaches currently under contract who the New York Knicks are interested in landing to replace Tom Thibodeau, who was fired this week.

Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka and Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd are also in consideration. As of Friday, June 6, the Knicks are expected to request an interview with Kidd, who has grown disgruntled with the situation in Dallas.

If the Knicks go as far as to request an interview with Finch, it would set up a potential reunion with Knicks Vice President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas, who hired Finch with the Timberwolves in 2021.

Finch also has familiarity with Karl-Anthony Towns and could be a conduit to better chemistry if Towns stays in New York amid frustration with his playoff performance.

It wouldn’t be out of question for the Wolves to move on from Finch to find a coach they deem better fit — especially considering the Knicks just fired Thibodeau after he reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
