According to ESPN, Thompson cleared waivers Sunday. Now, he’ll look to make some noise in the Eastern Conference next to new teammates Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

“Klay is one of the most iconic players to ever suit up in the NBA,” Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement. “A four-time battle tested World Champion who will fit perfectly into his role as an all-around player at both ends of the court. We all talk about his shooting skill, but there is so much more he brings to the game. We are blessed that Klay chose the HEAT in our quest to challenge for championships.”

Thompson spent two seasons with the Mavericks, appearing in 141 games with 80 starts. He averaged 12.9 points on 40.3% shooting from the field and 38.7% shooting from the 3-point line in a Dallas uniform.

The Mavericks originally acquired Thompson from the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster six-team trade during the summer of 2024. Thompson currently ranks fourth on the NBA’s all-time 3-point leaderboard, hitting 2,899 threes throughout his professional career.
