Five-star point guard Cayden Doughtry cut his lost of over 30 suitors down to 14 on Wednesday afternoon with Tennessee basketball making the cut, On3’s Joe Tipton first reported. Doughtry’s sizable list of contenders includes Florida State, Iowa, Miami, UConn, Florida, Arkansas, Michigan, Southern Cal, Kentucky, Louisville, Providence, Villanova and Vanderbilt in addition to Tennessee.
Daughtry ranks as a five-star and the No. 3 player in the country according to the 247sports rankings. 247sports also ranks him as the No. 2 point guard and No. 3 player in the state of Florida in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Rivals is a bit lower on Daughtry but still ranks him as a five-star and the No. 19 player nationally.
While Daughtry is still early in the recruiting cycle, he does have two official visits lined up to date. He plans on visiting Florida State this weekend and Iowa in the second week of September.
The 6-foot, 160-pound point guard is a Fort Lauderdale native who plays his prep basketball at the Calvary Christian School where he helped lead the Eagles to a 24-1 record during his junior season.
Tennessee is casting an extremely wide net at point guard in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The Vols are in the top group for five-star Nasir Anderson and five-star Reese Alston, hosted four-star Antonio Pemberton on an official visit this past weekend and have a visit scheduled with four-star Micah Gordon for the first weekend in September.

That means Tennessee is recruiting the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8 point guards in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports composite rankings.
The Vols hope to retain VCU transfer point guard Terrence Hill Jr past the 2026-27 season but want to have a two-headed option in the backcourt. They particularly like Anderson and his ability as one of the best perimeter defenders in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Tennessee has not landed a commitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle to date but has begun lining up official visits with a number of recruits this fall.
Four-star center Chris Brown has scheduled official visits for Sept. 19 weekend, the same one Tennessee football hosts Kennesaw State. Five-star wing Malachi Jordan and three-star forward Davis Cochran are officially visiting Tennessee the weekend that the Vol football team hosts Texas at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols have just two players on their roster for this upcoming season that are definitively out of eligibility so they will have at least two scholarships available. However, that number will almost certainly increase with potential NBA Draft prospects and other players potentially entering the transfer portal.
