Follow us on Google Discover The Miami Heat’s interest in adding another guard has fuelled speculation around Cam Thomas, but a top insider has revealed that the free agent does not appear to be on the team’s radar.
Miami recently added veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson on a two-year deal worth a little over $11 million, leaving the Heat with one roster spot available.
That has led to plenty of discussion about their next move, with Gabe Vincent emerging as one of the names gaining traction. Thomas has also been linked with Miami because of his scoring ability.

According to Heat insider Ira Winderman, however, Thomas does not appear to be the direction Miami wants to take with its final roster spot.
‘The word is that as a role player, you have to complement,’ Winderman wrote in a subscriber-only Q&A. ‘On a contender, or at least a perceived contender, Cam Thomas would not come in as an ultimate high-usage player.’
Thomas certainly has the scoring credentials.
The 24-year-old was selected by the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft and established himself as one of the league’s more dangerous high-volume scorers.
Across his third and fourth seasons, Thomas averaged 22.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 44.1 per cent from the field and 35.9 per cent from three-point range over 91 appearances for Brooklyn.
However, his time with the Nets ended after he played just 25 games during the 2024-25 season. He was waived ahead of the following season’s trade deadline before signing with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Thomas appeared in 18 games for Milwaukee, averaging 10.7 points while shooting 43 per cent from the field.

Winderman acknowledged that Thomas can score, but questioned whether his game fits what Miami needs.
‘Yes, he can score. But can he contribute to something greater?’ he wrote. ‘So far that answer has been rather obvious, because there is no doubt he can be a bucket.’
The Heat may therefore favour a guard who can help set up the offence rather than another high-usage scorer.
For Thomas, though, his numbers suggest another NBA opportunity should not be far away. At just 24, there should still be plenty of interest in what he can offer.
