It has been a rollercoaster couple of years for Jonathan Kuminga. He was part of the Golden State Warriors to start the 2025-26 season, but he was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where he was quite decent in their run to push the New York Knicks to the limit in the first round.

Now, Kuminga has entered a new chapter by signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. There has been plenty of noise surrounding Kuminga and his agent over the past few days. This has led him to reply to some critics on his TikTok page.

Kuminga’s free agency was one of the longest-lasting sagas of the 2026 offseason. There were plenty of rumors surrounding his landing spot, but it seems he found one in Minnesota. Plenty of people within the NBA community thought he would land with the Los Angeles Lakers, but that was not the case.

Now, Kuminga will be in the starting lineup that consists of an explosive backcourt of LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards, while he shares the frontcourt with defensive stars Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. It is now on Kuminga to make an impact as he has a lot to prove this time around.

Kuminga has to justify the lengthy chase teams made for him in the offseason. Considering a lot of people doubt his ability, citing that he has been selfish over the past year. Now, Kuminga seems intent on proving his doubters wrong by playing a lesser role in Minnesota.

“That’s just fine, bro; you can impact winning doing something else too if you didn’t know that,” Kuminga said in response to a commenter saying he will not get shots in Minnesota.

The Timberwolves might have gotten it right by signing Kuminga. He seems locked into the new role he will be playing. Of course, there are still some questions surrounding Kuminga because he did the same thing at the beginning of the 2025-26 season with Golden State.

He proved that he could serve as a useful role player for head coach Steve Kerr. However, he dropped off quite drastically after that point. Now, Kuminga must impress Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch, because if he does not, he might get benched.
