The Minnesota Timberwolves will meet for the start of training camp at the end of September. Of course, the squad that converges on Mayo Clinic Square later this month will look a heck of a lot different than the team that packed up their lockers earlier in the summer.
While ownership was busy changing hands for the second time in just over a year, Wolves president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, was determined to change the face of his team in a major way, on the court.
Mission successful.
Out are Naz Reid and Julius Randle, replaced by LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga — moves that flipped Minnesota from an oversized team supposedly built on defense and an offense centered around bully-ball — into what will look a lot more like the Showtime Lakers… with LaMelo “Magic” Ball running point.

But after unloading most of their size, in exchange for Ball, the MN Timberwolves have been on the hunt for cheap front-court help. Last week, they found the starter they were seeking, in Kuminga, but the Wolves aren’t done in that department.
According to the Jon Krawczynski Show, Minnesota wants to add more help at power forward. And, at least right now, it appears their number one target is none other than Kevin Love.

Question: “Is it possible we will see the return of Kevin Love to the Timberwolves?”
Jon K: “It is possible… [The Timberwolves] now have 14 players under contract, so that 15th spot is open. A lot of teams will keep that spot open for financial reasons, but also just for flexibility, in terms of deal-making.
But if you do look at one thing the Wolves could use, it’s another veteran presence who can play some, which Kevin Love can do. But also a guy in that locker room who knows how to communicate with coaches, and knows how to communicate with the players, who can just be a real help in a long season, kind of getting everyone through…
…from what I understand, Kevin Love is open to coming back to Minnesota. I do think that the Wolves have some interest in bringing him back, as well.

Kevin Love will wake up on Wednesday morning five days shy of his 38th birthday, and he’s a far cry from the perennial All-Star he was when he left the Twin Cities over a decade ago, at the spry age of 25.
Is this reunion really possible?
Since then, the former 5th overall Minnesota Timberwolves draft pick (2008) has won an NBA title and played for three different teams. His most recent stop was Utah, where he provided the 2025 Jazz with veteran bench depth (16.6 MPG), averaging 6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in just 37 games.
It’s been since the 2022-23 season that Kevin Love has played 20 or more minutes per game, and it’s been since 2021-22 that he’s averaged double-digit points.
However, when available, the former UCLA Bruin still provides elite three-point shooting and above-average rebounding — two things Minnesota needs pretty desperately. And from the sounds of it, both sides are extremely interested in making this reunion happen.
