Bennedict Mathurin’s path to the New Orleans Pelicans has not yet been finalized. According to Jake Fischer, the Los Angeles Clippers have not withdrawn their qualifying offer, meaning the forward remains a restricted free agent.
The Clippers cannot receive direct compensation for rescinding the offer because such an arrangement would violate NBA collective bargaining rules. Los Angeles could, however, participate in a multi-team trade designed to create the salary-cap space New Orleans needs to sign Mathurin.
That structure could allow the Clippers to acquire an asset indirectly while facilitating the 24-year-old’s move to the Pelicans. Mathurin appeared in 26 games for Los Angeles last season, averaging 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
