Following their retirement, two former Houston Rockets point guards, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul, decided to take a vacation together. The two are undoubtedly future Hall of Famers and share plenty of similarities throughout their careers. Ironically, both Paul and Westbrook played for three of the same franchises: the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Los Angeles Clippers, and, of course, the Rockets.
Back in July of 2019, Paul was traded from Houston to Oklahoma City in return for Westbrook, reuniting him with his former teammate James Harden. Although both point guards reached the NBA Finals, neither was able to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy. In 18 NBA seasons, Westbrook holds career averages of 20.9 points, eight assists, 6.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 0.3 blocks. In 57 games with Houston, he averaged 27.2 points, seven assists, 7.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals.
As for Paul, he played 21 seasons, averaging 16.8 points, 9.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds, two steals and 0.2 blocks. In 116 games for the Rockets, Paul averaged 17.1 points, eight assists, five rebounds and 1.8 steals. Rockets fans will look back on his tenure more positively, as he helped the aforementioned Harden reach the Western Conference Finals during the 2017-18 season.
