Domantas Sabonis could become one of the biggest names on the NBA trade market. The Sacramento Kings big man has two years and $94 million remaining on his contract, but the franchise is reportedly not interested in giving him an extension.
Sabonis is eligible for an extension, but Sacramento’s stance could pave the way for a potential trade. According to Brian Windhorst and Anthony Slater of ESPN, there is already significant interest in the veteran big man.
A significant contract
The biggest challenge for Sacramento would be finding a team willing to take on Sabonis’ contract.
He is set to earn $45.4 million in 2026/27 and $48.6 million in 2027/28, with both seasons fully guaranteed.
His contract and age could make a potential trade complicated, despite the interest in a player who has been one of the NBA’s most productive big men in recent years.
Looking to bounce back
Sabonis is also coming off a largely injury-plagued season. He played just 19 games, averaging 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
The 30-year-old is now healthy heading into training camp and will look to return to the form that made him one of the league’s most consistent double-double producers.
For Sacramento, the coming weeks could therefore be crucial in determining whether Sabonis remains part of the franchise’s plans or becomes one of the biggest names available on the trade market.
