The Cavaliers are taking holding training camp away from their practice facility at Cleveland Clinic Courts in Independence to a whole new level on a different continent.
After two years of holding training camp in Bradenton, Fla., the Cavs this year will train from Sept. 30-Oct. 5 at The Embassy in Andalusia in Fuengirola, Málaga, on Spain’s Costa del Sol, the team announced on Sept. 3.
According to the Cavaliers news release, “The Embassy is a purpose-built, high-performance basketball training center designed to provide professional athletes with an environment focused on performance, preparation, recovery, and privacy.
“The facility was designed by former Spanish national team players and World Champions Berni Rodríguez and (former Cavalier) José Calderón and features approximately 1,500 square meters of professional basketball infrastructure, including two FIBA/NBA-standard courts, a high-performance gym, rehabilitation and physiotherapy areas, recovery resources and audiovisual technology to support scouting and tactical preparation.”
The Cavaliers finished fourth in the Eastern Conference in 2025 with a record of 52-30, but they advanced to the conference finals for the first time since 2018. They were swept by the Knicks, who went on to beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals.
“Training camp is where the foundation for a season is built, and The Embassy provides our players, coaches and staff with an exceptional environment to begin that work,” Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman said in a statement. “The facility has established itself as a destination for elite basketball talent and performance, and having José Calderón, who has been instrumental in its development, as part of our organization makes this an especially unique opportunity for our team.
“Combined with the resources and expertise surrounding Cleveland Clinic’s growing presence in athlete performance and innovation, we’re excited to bring our group together in a setting designed to help us prepare, connect and build the habits and chemistry that will carry us into the season ahead. It’s also an exciting opportunity to experience the culture and passion for basketball in Spain.”
In other news, the Cavs announced they signed center Khalifa Diop.
Diop, a native of Senegal, is 6-foot-11, 231 pounds. The Cavaliers selected him with the 39th pick in the 2022 draft. He spent the past three seasons with Saski Baskonia of Spain’s Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. In 2025-26, the 24-year-old appeared in 47 total games (38 starts) for Baskonia and averaged 3.8 points on .670 shooting from the field, 4.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 16.4 minutes per game. He helped Baskonia capture the 2026 Copa del Rey title, the club’s first in 17 years, after also contributing to the team’s 2023 EuroCup championship.
