Sacramento’s great exodus may be continuing.
Kings big man Domantas Sabonis “wants to get out” of Sacramento, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported this week on “The Hoop Collective” podcast. Windhorst noted that Sabonis also recently hired a new agent — Aaron Mintz of CAA, who successfully orchestrated Trae Young’s exit from the Atlanta Hawks last January.
Sabonis, now 30 years old, has been with the Kings since 2022 after arriving in the Tyrese Haliburton trade with the Indiana Pacers. He quickly became a centerpiece for Sacramento, making an All-Star team, getting named to two All-NBA teams, and leading the league in rebounding three straight times from 2023-25.
The Kings most recently peaked in 2022-23 when they earned their first playoff berth since 2006 and won their first division title since 2003. But Sacramento has steadily plummeted ever since then, most recently finishing at a brutal 22-60 last season.
As a result, the Kings have traded away or otherwise parted ways with several key members of that 2022-23 team, including De’Aaron Fox (Sabonis’ co-star), Kevin Huerter, Harrison Barnes, and Davion Mitchell. Now it looks like Sabonis himself could be the next one to go.
Sabonis, who averaged 15.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game last season over just 19 total appearances due to a meniscus injury, is still owed $94.1 million over the next two seasons. But he has been the subject of trade rumors for well over a year now and could now finally be angling for his off-ramp from Sacramento.
