The Golden State Warriors have not brought in many big-time names this summer, despite being linked to stars such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis. For much of the offseason, the team primarily signed players who had previously played for the organization.
This summer has not been particularly kind to Golden State, as the Warriors have missed out on several big-time names. At one point, the offseason was viewed as going completely off the rails.
“The Golden State Warriors’ offseason is quickly going off the rails, with them having done little to improve thus far. The Warriors failing to improve their roster this summer should come as a massive disappointment to star Steph Curry,” Hoops Habit’s Cal Durrett wrote.
One positive sign for Warriors fans is that Steph Curry is expected to receive a contract extension at some point. It could be a rather hefty one for the four-time NBA champion.
“What the terms of a new extension look like for Curry will be completely up to him, as the Warriors are prepared to offer their star whatever he wants. If Steph wants the full $136.7 million through the 2028-29 season, he will get that. If he wants to take a discount to help the team, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have no problem with said deal,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.
However, the reality of Curry signing another contract is that it will likely be the final one of his playing career. Blue Man Hoops’ Nick San Miguel believes Curry could retire in 2029 following the completion of his next contract.
“Still, the most likely scenario is that Curry will be back, but that likelihood is made a bit sadder by the reality that this will almost certainly be the last contract Curry signs with the Warriors as a player. If he does agree to a two-year extension, it’s hard to see the 38-year-old playing beyond the 2028-29 NBA season,” Miguel wrote.
Curry is just one of several NBA greats who could be retiring before the end of this decade. It is an unfortunate reality that some of the best players to ever play the game could be hanging it up within the next four years.
For now, Curry will do everything he can to make one final run at the NBA Finals with the Warriors organization. The four-time NBA champion will go down as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history and potentially the best to ever play the game.
