Amid the ongoing debate about transgender athletes in basketball, NBA star Michael Porter Jr. has spoken about his viral photo with a trans woman in Taiwan.

The WNBA and the larger basketball world has continuously been involved in a debate about whether transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in the league for the past month and some.

Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. has given his take on the matter during this time, too. He claimed that it ‘wouldn’t be fair’ to allow trans athletes to compete in the W.

Amid all of this discourse, MPJ has now also addressed the situation of when he went viral after being spotted with a trans woman in Taiwan.

Porter Jr. went viral on social media in 2025 after he was pictured in Taiwan with influencer Xiao A La. It became quite the news due to MPJ’s own remarks about the issue over the years.

Speaking recently on a podcast, he shared the story of what exactly went down from his perspective.

“I’ve never acknowledged this but I feel like this might be the episode to acknowledge it,” Porter Jr. said. “I was out in Taiwan and one thing about the women out there is they stay very petite.

“So I was out there doing some appearances and I get a DM from some woman out there… She looks kind of good to me, more like my type. And I respond to her, we ended up kicking it.

“Someone had took a picture, and three years later the picture came out… People are saying you were spotted with a transgender woman. It reached over here, went viral here.

“I don’t even know who this woman was, and I don’t know if she was a transgender woman. We never got that far into speaking. But to this day, I don’t technically know.”
