Jalen Brunson will host the Season 52 premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on Sept. 26. The appearance comes months after leading the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship in more than five decades. Girl group Katseye will serve as the musical guest for the premiere.
Brunson’s selection as host of “Saturday Night Live” comes after the 30-year-old guard became one of the central figures in the Knicks’ championship run. New York captured its first NBA title since 1973 after a postseason filled with dramatic comebacks. During the Eastern Conference finals, Brunson scored 38 points in Game 1 against Cleveland after the Knicks had fallen 22 points behind before winning in overtime.
The Knicks later produced an even larger comeback in the NBA Finals, overcoming a 29-point deficit against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4. The comeback became the largest in NBA Finals history, according to NBC News. Brunson’s leadership became a major part of the team’s championship story. His approach has been to treat every game as a fresh start, regardless of what has happened earlier in a series.

Now, instead of leading a fourth-quarter rally on the basketball court, Brunson will be stepping onto the “SNL” stage. Brunson has generally maintained a serious and composed image during games, but his personality away from basketball has made him a natural fit for the comedy spotlight. He regularly jokes with Knicks teammate and close friend Josh Hart, with the two also hosting a podcast together. Their interactions during postgame media appearances have become a familiar part of the Knicks’ championship-era culture.
That lighter side of Brunson is likely to be central to his first “SNL” appearance, although NBC has not announced whether Hart or other Knicks players will appear during the premiere. The episode could also feature celebrity cameos connected to the Knicks’ championship run, although no such appearances have been confirmed.
