For a team like the Boston Celtics, that’s certainly ideal, as they have some needs. Among the players who could be a fit in the Celtics’ system, elite defender Kris Dunn is at the top of that list.
Dunn can really make plays on that side of the basketball, and he’s also continued to improve on the offensive side of things. He’s not a great offensive player by any means, but he continues to improve on that end, shooting 37.4% from three-point range on 2.6 attempts per game last year.
The Celtics also wouldn’t have to move any salary back because he’s just making $5.7 million next year, which is why the latest trade proposal could be ideal.

Clippers Get: 2028 second-round pick (via Milwaukee), 2030 second-round pick (via Washington), 2031 second-round pick (via Boston)
“The Celtics wouldn’t need to send any salary back here,” Fran Levia wrote.
“Kris Dunn is making only $5.7 million in 2026-27 and could be absorbed into the $27.7 million trade exception they created when they moved Anfernee Simons to the Bulls at the 2026 trade deadline. That TPE remains available until February 5, 2027, so Dunn fits into it easily, while the Clippers would simply turn an expiring 32-year-old rotation guard into three future second-round picks without taking another contract back.”
Bringing in a type of player similar to Dunn for this type of price would be very smart from the Celtics’ perspective.
It remains uncertain what the Clippers are exactly trying to do at the moment after everything they’re going through, but getting three second-round picks back could certainly interest them.
Dunn is going to continue to defend at a very high level, and that’s something the Celtics are looking to do night in and night out with Joe Mazzulla and the rest of the team.
