The Eastern Conference looks much different heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. Several teams made major moves this offseason, bringing together some of the best players in the league.
Some of these duos have played together before, while others will be trying to build chemistry for the first time. With so much talent across the conference, these four pairings stand out above the rest.

The Miami Heat made the biggest move of the offseason, adding Giannis Antetokounmpo to a team already led by Bam Adebayo. The pairing has no competition for the best frontcourt in the NBA. Giannis gives Miami an absolute monster on offense and defense, while Adebayo has established himself as one of the league’s best defenders.Â
The biggest question will be if they brought in enough surrounding talent to support the two. If the Heat can create enough space for Giannis to attack, this team could be among the best in the league.
Donovan Mitchell and James Harden
The Cleveland Cavaliers are headed into year 2 of the James Harden and Donovan Mitchell experiment. In year one, Donovan Mitchell showcased his ability to play off the ball, making this duo among the best in the league.
Mitchell remains Cleveland’s biggest scoring threat due to his ability to score at all three levels. Harden gives the team another player who can create offense, whether it’s playmaking or scoring. His playmaking could take some pressure off Mitchell and give Cleveland another way to attack opposing defenses.
Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey

The Philadelphia 76ers are on this list, and it’s weird because we’re not talking about LeBron James. Instead, it’s going to be Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey.
Brown gives Philadelphia another star who can score, defend, and create his own shot. The former Finals MVP is coming off the best season of his career. Tyrese Maxey brings speed and playmaking, while also being a premier scorer.Â
Maxey can control the ball and create opportunities, while Brown can score without needing to dominate possessions. Their playstyles complement each other perfectly.
Kawhi Leonard and Scottie Barnes
This might come as a bit of a shocker, but Kawhi Leonard and Scottie Barnes might shock the league this year.
Leonard returned to Toronto this off-season, pairing two of the league’s best defenders together. Teams are going to have nightmares figuring out how to get around Leonard and Barnes on defense. If Barnes can develop offensively, this duo could put the league on notice.
