Thunder players coach kids at YMCA basketball league in Edmond
Oklahoma City Thunder players joined the YMCA basketball league at Mitch Park for a day of scrimmages and community activities, marking the ninth year of the event.
Oklahoma City Thunder players stepped off the professional court and into the Mitch Park YMCA in Edmond to coach kids during the YMCA basketball league’s annual event, now in its ninth year.
The day included activities such as interviews and a basketball scrimmage, giving children the chance to interact with and learn from their favorite Thunder players.
“I always have a lot of joy just coming back, seeing the kids, being around the community, like, you see some of the same kids over and over again. I think that’s how you kind of really make a difference,” said Isaiah Hartenstein of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Chris Berry, associate vice president of the YMCA in Edmond, highlighted the significance of the Thunder’s involvement.
“I think when you look nationwide, I don’t think you’ll find any other professional team that connects to their fan base like the Thunder. And for those players to be here and those kids to see them invest some time is special,” Berry said.
