The Los Angeles Clippers faced a hefty punishment of a $30 million fine, and their five future first-round draft picks were taken after being found guilty of salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard.
As for Leonard, he was slammed with a $700K fine for his role in the scandal. Many thought that would be the end of owner Steve Ballmer and the Clippers’ woes.
However, that’s far from true, as the Clippers are now reportedly under a criminal inquiry.

According to a report by the New York Times, the Clippers are now under the microscope of the US Justice Department.
“Federal prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into allegations that the Los Angeles Clippers. The investigation is in its earliest stages and is being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn,” the report revealed.
It added, “The inquiry’s scope, targets, and the possible crimes being examined were unclear. But prosecutors have issued at least one subpoena as part of the investigation.”
As mentioned, it’s unclear what the US Justice Department has in mind for Ballmer and the Clippers. But one thing is clear: they are not out of danger yet.
