Michael Porter Jr. is not beating the irrational confidence allegations.
The Brooklyn Nets forward Porter appeared this week in a YouTube feature with popular streamer N3on. During the stream, Porter spoke about his outlook for next season and gave an extremely (extremely) optimistic prediction about the Nets.
“If we get that chemistry right, all of our young guys from last year got so much better, bro,” said Porter. “I don’t what the expectations are for our team, but we’re definitely going to surpass that.”
When asked by N3on if he thought Brooklyn would surpass 50 wins, Porter replied, “Yeah, I do.”
For context, the Nets went 20-62 last season, so Porter believes that they are primed for a 30-game turnaround or more. The team also has zero 50-win seasons ever since moving to Brooklyn in 2012 as they were not even able to hit that mark during the Deron Williams-Joe Johnson-Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett-Brook Lopez era or the Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving-James Harden era.
As such, that take from Porter is pretty delusional, especially with Brooklyn playing in what is now arguably the single toughest division in the NBA. Their four division rivals are the defending champion New York Knicks, the new-look Boston Celtics, the LeBron James-led Philadelphia 76ers, and the Kawhi Leonard-led Toronto Raptors.
Still, that is the kind of general optimism that Porter, who averaged a career-high 24.2 points per game last season for the Nets, should have about next season (especially after Brooklyn traded for three-time All-Star Julius Randle and drafted All-ACC selection Mikel Brown Jr). Porter himself also has a lot to play for in 2026-27 amid his uncertain long-term future with the Nets.
