UCLA announced that tickets to all home football and men’s and women’s basketball games “will be free for undergraduate, graduate and extension students going forward.” Previously, the Bruins had to purchase a Den Pass for $199 to gain access to home football and men’s basketball games. Students who already purchased the pass for this academic year “will be reimbursed.” The free student tickets are “one of many changes” new UCLA CEO and AD Tim Harris has made in an “effort to bring new energy to the school’s signature sports that had struggled” under previous AD Martin Jarmond. Last year, UCLA recorded their worst home attendance at the Rose Bowl since moving there in 1982 at 37,282, while men’s basketball at Pauley Pavilion was “not much better” at 7,036 spectators, among the lowest in the Big Ten (L.A. TIMES, 9/16).
