A week out from training camp, the 76ers have their first injury of the season.

Adem Bona has suffered a left foot sprain, an MRI confirmed and the team reported on Thursday.

Bona will be reevaluated when training camp starts on Sept. 29.

Bona, 23, was a second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft out of UCLA. He played in 58 games as a rookie, then 71 in 2025-26, with 18 starts. He averaged 17.4 minutes, 4.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game last season while shooting 59.5 percent from the field, down from 70.3 percent the year before.

Bona enters training camp as the presumptive backup center to Joel Embiid. He’ll compete with Ariel Hukporti, signed as a free agent after spending last season with the New York Knicks, for that role. Given that Embiid has averaged 32 games per season the last three years and played 38 games last season, the back-up center role is more prominent in Philadelphia than in most places.

Bona’s injury is an echo of last summer. Paul George was injured in July workouts, necessitating an arthroscopic knee procedure that delayed the start of his season. Jared McCain tore the UCL in his right thumb in a pre-camp team workout.
