Broncos running back RJ Harvey will not play in the team’s home opener against Jacksonville due to a hamstring injury.

The second-year back is inactive for the game, the team announced 90 minutes before kickoff.

Harvey did not practice Wednesday, but was upgraded to a limited participant later in the week. He practiced without pads Thursday. The Broncos listed the dynamic running back as questionable before Sunday’s game.

Have seen #Broncos J.K. Dobbins and Jonah Coleman on the field stretching this am. No sign of RJ Harvey so far.

Harvey had three carries for 18 yards and four catches for 23 yards in Denver’s Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The most productive game of Harvey’s career came against the Jaguars last year, when he posted 121 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. This offseason, Harvey underwent shoulder surgery after tearing his labrum. He injured his shoulder in the AFC Championship Game. Harvey also missed the entirety of the 2021 season at the University of Central Florida after tearing his ACL.

Without Harvey, lead back J.K. Dobbins could see a heavier portion of Denver’s carries after mostly splitting with Harvey in Week 1. Harvey handled third down and two-minute work against Kansas City, too, so those snaps will either go to fourth-round rookie Jonah Coleman or Tyler Badie.

Coleman was known as a high-quality pass protector in college at the University of Washington. Badie handled third downs and two-minute reps for Denver for most of the 2025 season.

Badie was inactive for Monday night’s game but is active Sunday against the Jaguars as Denver’s third running back.

The rest of Denver’s inactives: QB Sam Ehlinger (emergency QB3), TE Dallen Bentley, OL Kage Casey, DL Jordan Jackson and DL Tyler Onyedim.

Marvin Mims avoids IR

Broncos fourth-year wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. avoided a placement on injured reserve Saturday, meaning there’s hope his absence is a short one.

Mims was ruled out for Sunday’s game with a foot injury after missing the entire week of practice.

The wideout told The Denver Post he suffered an aggravation of an injury he dealt with in training camp after Monday’s loss to Kansas City. The Broncos called it a hip injury Monday night when he left the game. He later returned to action but played just nine snaps on offense and a handful of return snaps.

“It was just some old stuff coming back up and trying to toughen through it,” Mims said after the game.

Mims avoided IR, though, meaning Denver’s anticipating the wide receiver will return to action soon. Lil’Jordan Humphrey is active Sunday as Denver’s fifth receiver with Mims out.
