The Dallas Mavericks have finished renovating their practice facility in the Design District after five months and over 10,000 labor hours. The upgraded space now includes a practice gymnasium, wellness areas, a players’ lounge and a new performance kitchen. The team also reopened the facility on Monday and is scheduled to return to practice when training camp begins Saturday morning. The renovation will have a short shelf life, since the Mavericks plan to build a new arena in five years. Inside the gymnasium, two 18-foot-by-5 foot windows now bring natural light into the practice courts. A custom infrared sauna was added near the locker room, with eucalyptus hardwood-paneled walls and a height limit of 8 feet. The players’ lounge was expanded by 50 percent and now includes a large couch, a wooden table and two flatscreen televisions. Players and their families will also have access to the lounge for leisure and hosting events. The redesigned kitchen and dining space includes full in-house scratch production, personalized meals and smoothies, and a 100-square-foot skylight. The dining room increased by 300 percent and also features an 11-foot Ficus tree, a preserved-moss mural and custom banquette seating. Mavericks CEO Rick Welts said the investment reflects the team’s commitment to competing for championships. The renovated facility is now back in use in Dallas.
