The Denver Nuggets could be kicking the tire on an intriguing point guard who could help ease the load in the backcourt for Jamal Murray.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Nuggets are a team to watch out for if Ryan Nembhard gets released by the Charlotte Hornets.
“UPDATE: Ryan Nembhard is expected to have multiple suitors on potential two-ways if he is indeed waived by Charlotte. Sources say, with the Nuggets prime among them,” Stein shared on X.
The former Gonzaga Bulldogs point guard has been on quite a journey this offseason. The Dallas Mavericks exercised their $2.15 million option on Nembhard for the 2026-27 NBA season before trading him to the Atlanta Hawks via a three-team swap in July.
On Tuesday, the Hawks sent him to the Charlotte Hornets, along with Buddy Hield and cash considerations, in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith.
But it appears that Charlotte is not Nembhard’s final landing spot this offseason, with the Hornets carrying 18 players with standard contracts. That means Charlotte needs to trim its roster down to 15, and Nembhard could be a cut casualty.
Nembhard is still just 23 and has shown flashes of brilliance running the point during his time with the Mavs. He could be someone the Nuggets can rely on to keep the offense running, especially whenever Murray takes a breather.
During the 2025-26 season, Nembhard averaged 6.6 points, 5.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds, while shooting 35.6% from behind the arc.
